Ministries we are involved with:
We are involved in Prison Ministry and Rehabilitation, Bible in Schools and the Fresh Perspectives Programme. If you are interested in becoming involved in any of these ministries, please contact us.
Beside the many Parish ministry opportunities, we support the local Food Bank, run Children and Youth programmes, a Community Garden and an Outdoor Adventure Club for youth. Find out more about our Children and Youth Programmes here!
Bible in Schools
Teaching Bible in Schools, or Christian Religious Education, as it is formally called, is indeed a privilege and not a chore. The children are so enthusiastic and love the songs, bible stories and activities we bring. It is lovely to see children asking if they can say a prayer.
Along with other Wairarapa Church Groups, we manage over 40 mentors helping families.
Who we are: Fresh Perspective is a subsidiary service of the Open Home Foundation. A network of trained volunteer mentors are available to assist with supportive relationships with adults and families that have asked for help. This Christian service aims to help adults in families recognise their strengths and abilities and identify supports that are available in the community to improve their lives and parenting.
Who we help: Mentoring is available to adults with dependents, who are seeking support with issues that impact their parenting and affect their ability to cope with life generally.
How it works: By spending time with families on a regular (usually weekly) basis, listening to their problems and sharing both joys and concerns with them so as to take a fresh look at life together.
The Garden Club meets at St Matthew's on Wednesday mornings. The new dome is coming along nicely!
Inside-Outside is a Prison Ministry, formally called the Circle of Friends. We currently have a group of people who meet once a month, in the St Matthew's Church Hall. At the moment we are working in Rimutaka Prison, but are also looking to mentor at Arohata Female Prison. We talk with inmates on the inside and also work towards helping them, to reintegrate into the community, on their release. Meetings are on every 2nd Thursday of the month, 7.15pm, in the St Matthew's Community Hall Common Room. If you would like to know more, please contact Vic Gadsby through the Church Office on 370 8589.
