The town of Rjukan, Norway, is located amongst sheer mountains in the northern latitude and doesn’t see natural sunlight in winter for four months. To lighten up the town the citizens installed large mirrors on the mountain side to catch what sunshine there is.
The continuous glow over the town square is made possible by the giant mirrors as they rotate with the rising and setting sun.
Jesus called his followers to be the light of the world… to reflect the light of Christ that is in us, into the darkness around us. Our lives are to be a reflection of Jesus the Son. That calls us to show love in the face of hatred, patience in response to trouble and peace in moments of darkness.
But just as Rjukan can have no light without the mirrors, so too we can do nothing without Jesus.
