A Young Boy's Insight

A young boy was deeply grieved when the family pet dog died.  Such was his grief, that he shut himself in his bedroom all afternoon.

Nothing that his parents told him could console him in the loss of his faithful playmate.  But the smell of dinner cooking finally drew him out.

With the grace said, he took his knife and fork and began to eat.

Then he paused and said; “I know why cats and dogs don’t live long. Human beings live a long time because it takes a lot of time for them to learn to be loving, understanding and forgiving. But cats and dogs don’t have to learn all that, so they die quicker.”

Then he picked up his fork and continued with his meal.  In the midst of a seeming tragedy, this little boy found a simple life truth for himself that helped overcome his grief.
