Small Change

A minister from Houston USA often tells this story at leaders’ conferences.

Some weeks after he arrived in a new parish, he had occasion to ride the bus from his home into the city centre.  When he sat down, he realised that the driver had accidently given him too much change.  Actually a quarter, or 25cents.

As he considered what to do, he thought first “You’d better give it back.  It would be wrong to keep it”.  Then he thought, “Oh it’s only 25c, who would worry about such a little amount?  Anyway, the bus company charges heaps and they wouldn’t miss it.  I’ll just accept it as a gift from God.”

When his stop came, he paused momentarily at the door, and then handed the quarter to the bus driver explaining he had been given too much change.  The bus driver smiled and replied, “Aren’t you the new minister in town?  I’ve been thinking about going to church lately and thought I would see what you would do  if I gave you too much change………. I’ll see you at Church on Sunday.”

When the minister stepped of the bus he literally grabbed the nearest light pole and said, “Oh my God, I almost sold your Son for a quarter.”

Our lives are the only bible some people will ever read.
